So we we were talking a little off camera, and I mean the the struggle, but I and I feel like a lot of struggle busts going on for a lot of the team. Um you know, Zach, if everyone doesn't echoes of the hunt, he's dealing with like this huge thing, and one of our main guys, um, Connor, he's out with the injury and like all these things. So, like, yeah, like it's been a crazy, um, you know, crazy little bit, but um, how's how's everything, you know, how's everything going?

been interesting. So I hunt on public land and on base. So base, they have it's it's great. It's this now they have like restricted zones. So imagine you're driving on a dirt trail, it's say 5.50 in the morning, and there's just a you can't go any further. So now you have to do a 10-point turn to go around because it's and it's not on Onyx or anything else, you're just like, Whoa, okay, now I have to change where I want to hunt. So a lot of the places that I scouted early season weren't blocked off or pre-burned or whatever. So it's like now it's like you get there in the morning, you're like, open up onyx. Like, okay, where do I go? So that's been new for me. Um, and then I moved, so I I tried a new um new area, and I I don't want to blow it up because I mean I can say it it's rockfish, it's it's a um it's a place here in North Carolina, um Rockfish Public Land. And when I tell you eight cars, so I like normally I don't drive, I don't ride in in my clothes. I normally park a little further out, change. It's just yeah, I don't know if it works or not, but it's just something I've always done. And as I'm changing, one guy's like, drive in. I'm like, that's cool. Two guys, like three guys, four guys. I'm just like, no way. By the time I had put my clothes on, 10 guys had walked, had drove in, and it's a big area, but it's like then I park, another guy's like, Are you are you are you on here? It's like, no man, no, no, no, no, no. Another guy's making conversation.

Oh man, there's plenty of land, and it it is, but it's just like there there is plenty, plenty of land, but what I've noticed, and we've talked all about it a lot on the show, like even when we're we're up at PA Rifle, and we were talking about so like I want to say probably thousands of acres, you get guys that are they don't a lot of people don't want to go far. You know what I mean? So, yes, there's a lot of land, and I would probably say like majority of them are gonna be no one's going past them, like no one's going past a mile. And like a mile is even pushing it. So I'd probably say like a lot of people are not going, you know, five, six hundred yards.

Yeah, I forgot to ask you in in New Jersey, you guys have a um so here in North Carolina, you can check each public land and see how many deer have been been been uh harvested there. Do you guys have that?

We don't get that information until the end of the year. That'd be pretty cool. That would that would definitely be a pretty cool feature, but um we don't know the number. Yeah, we won't know the number until Yeah, they'll have it by game land.

Well, by county and by game land, so you can be like, okay, cool. Like I got three, so you know, like this place I went, like 98 deer were harvested there. That's what I said.

Deer Density And Early Season Wins

right right now. It's kind of hard because they like they have food, or you know, there's some people treat them as pets, the whole the whole nine, and then about the rut, about October, because that's when I got my my my first my first buck last year. About October, the group start pushing, and then they have to leave those little nests and they start wandering. Um, and they start showing up in the daytime because they're you know, hormones and getting pushed, and bucks are trying to find their little, you know, their little their little nudge. So you see a lot of differences. So early season, I was telling somebody, like early season, if you're even if you're gonna switch the gun, it's good if you're seeing deer. You know, just the fact of getting into the woods, yeah um, is like a success. Getting into the woods, seeing deer is like, oh man, he's too far. It's like cool, you you know maybe I gotta set up better, you know, if they don't blow. I I I just use it as like a lesson. It sounds silly, but like I use it as like a like a tool of like, okay, I'm at least seeing deer. Minus you're just like, I'm just out here sweating, you know, like I'm just out here or freezing. It's like I haven't seen anything and I've been in here 12 12 hours, you know.

know, obviously, some fun some frustration, some this that all oh yeah, all different types of things, but oh yeah, for your your weekly report, like what are you looking at?

I think that's why I I posted something just saying like being positive, because like you start off because you're shooting your bow, you know, like I'm so locked in. Man, I got like got my new you know, system or this is the system I'm using. Yeah, and then uh Friday after work, we group got out. We're like, all right, so my friend, he's over kind of like a ridge, so there's like a big thicket. He's on this side, I'm on the opposite end because from what he's telling me, the deer are gonna flow towards me. So there's a swampy area, so I'm like, so I'm right over the swamp. And then we have another friend who's to the south of us. He reports a deer, two deer running by him. I think nothing of it. I I kind of laugh. I'm like, oh man, what'd you do? Did you like we're you know, we're just laughing. And then probably a minute later, I hear something. I'm like, I turn and they're looking right at me. And I was like, oh, and they blow, freak out, and run. And I was like, and then on the other end, my buddy, I jokingly kept calling him over the back because every time he shoots, it's over the deer's back. Because he had a eight-point at that same ridge. So where I was facing, he had an eight-point or six-point shot over the back. But I guess it just was like whatever. So it came back to him. He shot again, and he's just we're just like, How could you like? We're just like he shot twice and missed. Both over the back? One was short and one was over the back. So I'm like, I was like, dude, are you nervous? Like, what's going on? What you're like, you know, I was like, man, we gotta talk about your bow. Like, and you know, I was talking to him about compound bow sighting, yeah, compound, compound.

Yeah. Um, but we were just going over that because I was just like, what was going on? Um, weather's gotten a little better. Um, and then Saturday, I had three does at about like 96. So it was, it was too far to shoot. Like, I I could barely see it. Um, they got into range about 55, give or take. Like, and I I have the snippet, I just haven't, I just haven't got on my um my 360 yet. Um, my heart's just like, and I'm like self-talking myself. I'm like, 96, that's too far. 76, I'm thinking like 3D hunt, like you know, I'm like, well, that's not like I'm you can see me like calculating like the little triangulation, like, well, well, well, and then it got like 55. I was like, oh, I'm in there. And I stood, I range again, I pull back, and I watched the shot because I I pulled back and then I kind of like, so I don't know if it was nerves or if it was like, but I pulled back and um it was at the doe's feet, like boom, and then I looked down and I I didn't luck in my dial.

And I just was like because I was trying to be so stealthy, like yeah, yeah, yeah.

And the most important thing you forgot to do, and you know, a lot of the guys, and you know, my buddy Zach and like a bunch of people that I know, like, or one of our team guys, Zach, not echoes of the hunt, they keep they'll shoot at a farther distance and then forget to turn the dial back. Yeah, yeah, yeah.

So then they'll shoot and like blow like I think it happened like twice, like a done in Delaware and everything like that. Uh Zach shot right over the back, clean miss and everything like that. Because the day before we were shooting at like 40-50 yards, and then he shot a dough at shot at a dough at like 20 yards, but it went clean right over the back and everything like that. So, like it's that's and and I will say, like, are you using the single pin?

The only thing that I hate about the single pin is I know my ass I would completely forget constantly.

Yeah, that's that's what I I get comfortable at, especially if I'm shooting. I've done it a couple times where I'll shoot before I like check my boat for I'm like, all right, I'm good. And I just get so comfortable that I range a lot, like you know, I'm but I'm not thinking I need to turn it. You know, I'm just I'm just pulling back, like, oh yeah, I got so confident, and it's just like won, won't, wall.

Oh yeah, yeah. No, I I I get that. Um, but you know what I always say, like at least a clean miss and not like a bad shot, a gut shot, or you know, um yeah, that that's I think that's the most important.

Like honestly, I joke with my my my other buddy about it, but like at least you're getting the same for me, you're getting the reps in, you're getting the nerves out, like that still shows you care about you know the games thing we we do. So it's still cool to to at least like I keep saying it's seeing the like at least the fundamentals of seeing the deer, you're like, okay, cool. On these public areas, it's just you have acres and like just miles and miles of just hilly mud, sand, just trees, and you see, and you're just like, okay, like because sometimes it's daunting, man. Like, you just like okay, I know these fundamentals, I know where they, you know, it's like you can just think about it. Like, when I when I saw those does, I was like, all right, there's acorns here, but I just say, well, it is shady over there, and it's it's wild because there was even um turkeys in the back. So I'm like, get the like this, this can't be what's going on. Like turkeys in the back, three does, and uh, and I knew they didn't see me, so that's what I was pretty proud of because I was I was pretty high. Um, because one just like chilled out, it was like sitting on sitting down, just like, yeah, everything's cool. And I was like, and I'm just nervously like, grab another arrow, but then they got spooked. So now I'm gonna let that area kind of cool off and go back. Yeah, just let it like just because they showed up at 1015, you know, like that doesn't happen normally. It's like at least here between 7:15 and about 7:45. Then there's just a huge gap of maybe 12. Yeah, um, depending on where you're at. And then it's like between 5 and 6:30. Those have been my windows of it's either early or late. And it's just like I pray that it's not late. I'm like, I don't want to do this. I don't like, I'm not afraid of the dark, it's just like you forget all the turns you made until you have to drag that deer through the woods. Oh, oh man, it gets stuck, and you're just like, I like why did I walk so far back?

Yeah, yeah, yeah. I I would I would definitely say I think um, I don't know, killing killing a deer, any type of deer in the evening. It's like, all right, certain time in the evening, it's okay, cool. Like, all right, I got still plenty of light. Like, and I get it, like it's so much easier just gutting a deer, dragging it out, tracking, doing everything when you have your own light. But when you have to use like a flashlight and everything, it just makes the process just just longer. Yeah, but you know, that's hey, that's the game, and and and that kind of thing. Yeah, that's that's the game.

Saddle Versus Climber Comfort

Yeah, this year I've been I've been using the the um old school lone wolf. Um just because like off season I have some hip stuff going on. So like the method three is comfortable. One state, like that's not the issue. I mean, obviously, my aider broke the other time, but yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. Like one stinking comf like it's comfortable, it's just my hips sitting so long. So I've been I've been in the old school um hand climber, and um yeah, I've been rocking that and it's been fine. It's just like just sitting for so long or like kind of in that that position to the tether, it just kind of like I get up, I'm like, oh, like it's it's sore, like I did a bunch of squats. So I've been more manageable with just the luminos. And it's pretty caught, it's pretty light, so I've been using that more often um to go out, and that's just been my move. But and also I forget when I use it the visibility of the you know of a saddle because I don't have the 360. I can't just turn. So now I have to like look behind me versus like I can just turn and and yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.

Teaching A New Hunter To Scout

Um but I do have a positive note. My um, so one guy reached out to me on YouTube and he was like, I want to learn how to hunt. I was like, okay, and this happens, it probably happens to you. So I was like, okay, well, we're gonna we're gonna learn how to scout. Sure. He he met up. He's like, hey man, I don't have like I really don't want to spend this much money. I was like, all right, man, what's your budget? I was like, dude, get a climber. Like, just get a climber. Don't don't have no shame and like get a climber. I'll rock my like we'll go out there and climb, like, have no issues. Um, so we went out the first, like, not the opening day, the following day, brought him around, and he was able to get up, but I had a crossbow I don't use, so he has that. I was like, okay, this is like success. Like, I'm happy he was getting that experience. We saw we saw Deer like running, but uh not not close. So we saw that, and then today he sent me a picture of him out. I was like, Hell yeah, brother. Like, I was just like, Yeah, there you go, man. Like, that's great. That's like a that's a great that's kind of that's been my goal, man. I'm just like, cool, cool to see you learn the for a couple hours we were out, and I was kind of showing him and like where to go, what to look for. We found sign, but I was like, uh, there might be pigs here. Like, we were just going through those, and it's like he sent me a text at like 715, like, hey man, I'm out here. I was like, how where? You know, because I heard on my phone, on my earbuds. Yeah, yeah. How where? And I saw the picture, I was like, Hell yeah, man. I love that. That's great. That's like a positive to all like the you know, me, me getting rained on, thunder in the tree, like it's 110 degrees.

Spot And Stalk Doe Recovery

I'm going out to check a camera, go to check my spot, and I don't even get to film anything because I just wasn't expecting, and there's just three three to four does just um eating acorns. Yeah, and I was able to you know sneak up ranged, yeah, and I was like, all right, this deer is at 30, I think it was 35 yards, right? Um, quartering two. So this is a quartering two shot on a slight like incline. Yeah, yeah. So I was like, all right, like I was able to sneak up to this uh pine tree basically. I drew back and she looked right at me, and I was like, all right, she's quartering two, like, and and we're on a little incline. I was like, don't mess this up, like don't mess this up. Released, man, it felt good. Like it out of impact, everything sounded good.

Do you do the uh do you hate deer and stop them, or do you just let them rock? Like, do you just let them walk?

Yes and no. It it really just depends. Like, I I try not to stop deer if I don't have to stop deer. Um I you know, for for every a lot of the the listeners know and everything like that. Last year I stopped a big buck. Didn't work. Um he bounced out and I took a shot. Yeah, yeah, like it, you know, um other deer, like yes, I've I've been able to stop them and and and things like that, but I I really try not like I'm trying to to think from just the last three years. I think, yeah, I think the buck that I shot last year was the only one that I that I stopped. Um and if they're close enough, like if they're like the the buck I shot last year, the one of the other bucks, it was a five-yard shot. Right. I don't I didn't have to stop him. He was so damn close that he was right there. I shot him on the walk, you know what I mean? Um and it's during the rut too, so he's kind of posturing, so he has that like slow, like that little bit of a slow walk and everything, like yeah, big chest set up like a place to say like a peacock, just like exactly. Yeah, um, so yeah, like I don't know. I I probably, you know, I probably will again, you know what I mean. I I had one, I'm not gonna let the one bad experience do it. I think it was that was just a really mature book, and yeah, he's just been me at a lot. So he kind of knew he knew the game.

Like I've had quick hunts like opening day, like five, six, seven years ago. Yeah, I shot my dough 19 minutes into the season, and this was like I started walking in. I didn't even walk far. Like, this was a couple hundred yard walk in, yeah. And I was like, oh, I was like, okay.

It was it was so much fun. Like it, it was like if I could do that at least once a year, have a hunt like that, like that would and I hit a goal too of mine doing it, a spot and stalk, you know what I mean? And yeah, shooting deer on the on the ground, and you know, with with nothing. So I I got to achieve a goal, but I went over, Arrow was perfect, like uh buried, um beautiful red. And I'm like, all right, like I'm not gonna even try, like I'm not gonna even try to find blood right now. Like I knew where she walked, right? So I walked. And I was like, and I didn't find anything, so I'm like, shit. And I didn't see her. And I actually, now thinking about it, like I was right next to her. I just didn't see her. So I was like, all right, fuck. Like, let me go back again. Let me start from the arrow again. And let me actually like get on blood. And I got on blood, and it was a bloody mess. But there was blood everywhere. I was just on the wrong trail.

Or why you know, as I moved, I was like, why do I have four? Why and like some of it I've sold or given to people, I'm like, hey man, you need like then I think of it, I'm like, where's my oh, I don't have an extra one.

Losing Gear And Building Redundancy

like crazy, and I know everyone we're getting off track of the story. We'll get back to it. Oh, yeah, it's all good. Like I've I've lost grunt tubes constantly during the rut. Like, I'm always dropping because I'm so active during that that time of the year, and I'm moving and grooving and everything like that. So I'll be grunting and doing. I I think I lost like three last year. I broke one, lost like two or three. So I always have to have multiple grunt tubes with me, and I usually want the same ones. I usually get the Primos Buck uh Roar with the uh also so you can snort weeze, big snort weeze guy. Uh loved love to snort weeze. Um so that's usually kind of the combos combo when I'm running, but they usually have to be the same. Um, I have multiple, I've every piece of gear I I have. I literally have um yeah, same multi multiple of and everything like that.

But yeah, that's that's been the running joke with uh me and my buddies is like I always lose something because I never I go into the I'm like no, I have a plan before I am like I check my bag. I won't I woke up I think Saturday, I was like about 3 30. I was like, do I check it? I got this, I got this, and I'm like, my gear strap. And I was like, oh, it's gone. But I have but I have this other one. I was like, I haven't I had a backup in there. I was like, oh thank god. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Or like there was something with my camera arm. I was like, oh, like camera arm.

Yeah, that's what I I forgot I had another, another one I just checked in there. I was like, why don't I use it? I realized why I didn't use it anymore. Um, because it's that just how it balances, or I think it's uh um when I bought it, I thought it was an actual camera arm, but it's a nice cell phone camera arm, so it like it weighs down if you if I put my Sony on there, but um my elevated stand once has been cool. Those guys even sent me, I I lose stuff so bad. There's they have these pins. Well, I lost it in the woods.

I have it too as well. I lost uh what's his face to it? Um as well. And that and that's uh I like I you that's my backup one, but right now I'm I lost like a pin or something like that. I lost something where where I actually need it. I gotta take a look.

Might be yeah, I emailed, no, I sent them a message, uh, our email, and they were like, I was like, hey, I lost this pin. It's like took like a day or two, and I was like, I'll send you a new one, and sure enough, they did. Yeah. So that's I mean, to me, that's that's a solid, solid thing. And it honestly made me want to use it more because it was I wasn't just like they didn't charge me anything, it's just a little pin. I was like, I I have the camera on. I just it's just the pin. I tried to use one from a um hardware store, and it just it just didn't work. It just just wasn't because it didn't have the little like the little pin at the end to make it. Yeah, yeah, yeah. So yeah. So like I did some b-roll, but it's just kind of like uneven. So I was like, oh, I can't really use that. But now I'm I'm back in the game, man.

Love, love that. That mine is all beaten to shit, and I've used it it was probably like year five or six with it. I think I got it when when it came out. Yeah, so mine's all beaten to shit and loose, and like I gotta tighten it and everything like that. But great, great freaking pocket arm.

Yeah, but uh I'm I'm tough on my equipment. That's one thing I I forgot how to like because it's been sitting for so long. I realize how tough I am like on my equipment. Like, you know, I'm just like, man, I'm just like I don't know what it is, but you gotta be. Yeah, I mean that listen, what what we're doing hunting, like but it's also your safety too, so it's like I'm glad that my r like you know, what I'm doing, it's still holding tight. Um, even my old stand that I'm I'm I yeah, like it's just out of half there, yeah. It's just like, but it's still rocking and rolling, you know. I'm like not too bad. This new loan, it's like but my old one still works, you know.

It's like the old gear, yeah. The old gear holds up, and you know, most of the stuff is is good and it's gonna last and and things like that. Um, you know, but but I absolutely yeah, I love some of my old stuff. I just don't once I forget about it, I usually forget about it.

A lot of my clothes, like I I have a lot of different hunting clothes, and I sold most of my sickest stuff, mostly all my sickest stuff is gone, except for my late season stuff. That's the only thing I won't sell.

Jersey is from September to February. You let me know. Um wow. Our bear, yeah, we have a very long season. Our bear season, we have two bear seasons. Um, one's coming up in the week, week and a half, and then um another one in December, which is our gun season. Um so, and you could shoot two bucks and a bear during that time. And the two bucks are any weapon, and you could tell, yeah, we could shoot seven bucks. Yeah, it's stupid. But we're I'll I'm not gonna get into that because everyone's like, we've got to we've gotten to that. Yeah, I I we we talk about it so much on this show. I and I think just in almost everyday conversation that that I have with with hunters and stuff like that, like yeah, I you know it's funny, I've stopped my my uh because I moved into a new community.

It's funny that anytime I move, you know, like anytime, you know, I'm like, hey man, hey, welcome to the neighborhood. I was like, oh yeah, yeah. He's like, but do you hunt? Oh do you hunt? Like I've I've asked eight each and I'm like, oh, all right, never mind. And even like the the opening day, uh, I didn't hunt, I hunted the very next day. And I was looking, I was like, oh man, I hope I hope I see a truck leave around this time, man, so I can be like, but you know, it's just funny how you try to look for other hunters that are like that live close, and I'm like that just in case something happens that I have someone to be like I'm stuck, man, or lost my keys, or just something stupid.

So yeah, like like I was saying with with the story. Sorry everyone, where this is how conversations go. Um yeah, tractor, uh founder on top of the ridge, big, big doe, like big, big doe. It might have uh, I don't know if she was my biggest doe, but like she's up there in the top three of does. Um, and it was nice because the drag down was just all downhill, so so much easier. Yeah, it was downhill. So I had no issues with that, and yeah, I got got her up, and then after that was man, I I had to focus on uh what I was gonna do with the buck, and you know, found um honestly went to a spot.

The Target Buck And Shooting Lanes

I kind of had a feeling there there were some big bucks and did a bunch of scouting and got into a tree, and this tree is you know literally sideways. So me having to step up, I have to kind of climb up like this, and then I get into the tree, and like it's branches, and it's perfect, like I'm in the tree. And that first night, I mean saw a lot of deer and had a shooter come out. Um and I just didn't have a shot lane, and I was like, all right, next day, go back.

I le I left because I was I was only at that time that the first two days, I was only hunting one stick up. Like I was hunting one stick, and then like I I had my platform up. Like during this time, I'm not hunting too high. Um so and I was like, uh, maybe I should cut a shooting lane, and I didn't. I was like, all right, I still think they're gonna come, you know, through the left. Get in, and these deer came out early. Um and probably the biggest deer. If I killed this deer, it'd be my biggest deer to date. Um, I had him. If I just would have had him, he was out there for probably like 30, 40 minutes. Him and there are just so many deer that day. And I mean, I I glassed him, I filled, I was like, oh my god, like fired up, just fired up. You know what I mean? And he was he was eating and then he came out, and he was probably he was in my kill, like I had him, like I would have had him. If I would have cut a shooting lane out, yeah, I probably would have killed that deer that day.

Okay, no higher. Okay, I mean I could get like higher, there just was no shooting lanes, like the the tree is so thick and just so many branches, like thick branches, like the size of this. Um there was no, I could have climbed all the way to the top and still wouldn't have have gotten a shot. Um so and they they were moving too, and they were getting closer. So I tried turning around because I would have had to turn around and and get a shot. And I guess my butt on the saddle scraped up against the wood, and they were so close that they heard it, and they they spooked soft soft bump. I wasn't wasn't worried at all. They didn't blow, they didn't, they didn't anything. It was a soft bump. Four or five bucks ran and he he was the the the big one was the last one to run, and he was just running just because the other deer were running. Yeah, yeah. So I know like I wasn't worried at all. I was like, all right, stayed in, saw a big six-pointer that man, I I've been watching him a lot, and I've I've seen him in person multiple times with Velvet. I had him pattern, um, and I really want him to to survive. You know what I mean? Because he will be an impressive deer next year. But if I get the opportunity, I don't know. Like, I have a huge dream of shooting like a big six. Um you know, so we'll we'll we'll see on that one. But I get down, everything like that next day. I go in there early. I'm um whatever, and this is the day before the the northeastern, so this is our last day to hunt for the next couple of days because of the wind, the rain, everything like that, the storm. And I am in there cutting this big ass branch, and it I cut, it breaks, and I got myself a nice pocket. Um, and he just didn't show up. And I saw a couple other good bucks, like a couple potential good basket rack eight that if he survives, he'll be a good buck next year. Um, I saw same genetics as that six-pointer, just a little smaller. Um and then yeah, so then we had the Northeastern, and I went out today and I saw him. I he was out there, and if he would have followed the script, you know, I probably would have had him at 40 yards, but he did it. He was on the uh he was all the way on the other side. I filmed him for a while. Um he he was looking and it was crazy. Like, so the does were were in front of me, and they like if this was a couple weeks, he would have been chasing over there and he would have came over. But you could tell he has no interest in does right now, and yeah, he just looked at them getting his stomach full. Yeah, exactly. He was he was eating, but he was looking into the woods, so that kind of told me that there was either another big deer or a bigger deer in there, yeah. Um, so my wind tomorrow is not the uh the good thing is only two miles per hour. Um, so I it's not my my favorite wind, but I'll be able to get get away with it. So yeah, I will be hunting this deer. I have probably like I have a feeling I have probably a week until he switches his pattern. Um good luck, dude. Good luck, man. I hope you can't. I can't really get closer either. Right. Um I I probably could, but there's there's reasons why I really don't want to. By the end of the week, if I haven't killed him tomorrow or Wednesday, I might switch out where I might get really, really aggressive and go over there um to where I think he's he's betting. Um, but I think he's betting, so that's why I don't want to push any closer because I literally think he's betting, like right there.

Um, I think that's been one of my new approaches this year because I've been in new areas, so looking for betting, looking for like those type of areas of like kind of taking your approach of being aggressive, but also like not yeah, and also like I think kind of like you, it's like if I get off at five, that means I have two hours, maybe 30 minutes to get the you know, like so. It's like if I only have two hours max, but maybe two hours, 30 minutes. So that's two hours, 30 minutes to drive. It's like I'm trying to maximize what little time I have, and kind of like you take that approach, like sit back and observe, or just get aggressive, but then you might lose them, you know.

Yeah, I I save a lot of my aggressive hunting for um the rut. The rut. I really get really, really aggressive during the rut. Um, and you know, it's just something that you can get away with just so much. Their focus is just not what it is.

Like they they were looking for they were looking for something else, like when I was like, and you know, I that's something I guess I don't I don't really focus on because I'm like it's public land, like deer's a deer, but I noticed a deer that looked just like my big boy. I'm like, no way, and on this random scrape I built, but I just I just have to get them not at 2 a.m. or 11 a.m. or 2 47, and the moon's been out here too, so it's been extra bright. So I'm just hoping it all all works out. My you know, I'm not stressing. Normally, like October, mid-October is my first. Normally it's like about mid-October is like my first. I don't know what it is about that time. I don't know if they split up the the bachelor groups, but that's about my time here. I don't know why, you know.

Well, the the the mid I was I was just talking to uh Bianca, um, because she was we're we're talking about it, and I was like, yeah, probably like mid-October. I think mid-October is when everything heats up. Um, you know, and they're like today, I watched a couple of the young guys, they're they're sparring and everything like that. And yeah, you know, they just still there's just still no really interest in the dose. You know, but I'll tell you, in probably two and a half weeks, you know, I mean, once we're done with with Bear Camp, um, I guarantee you that mid mid October, you'll see them, they'll they'll start to start chasing a little more and more and more.

So at least, you know, I'm not gonna hunt over them, but it's at least gonna give me an idea of what's out there because I'm always like I'm always surprised. Like those those two behind me might be my biggest one, but like my most meaningful one was like the first one of the season, that first dough, like, you know, like but just just trying my best, man.

Let me uh let me pull it down. Let me see. This is this is it. This is the the the one. This is it. This is uh the one, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight. I mean, I don't know. This is this is the deer. This was probably 180, 190 is probably the biggest deer I ever seen in um in uh at least my life that I've seen in videos. I mean, you know, it was kind of out of I think it was out of context. Uh so what happened? This had to be opening of rifle season last year um on public in the morning, and I've I've told this story before, but in the morning, my buddy went out with his girlfriend. She has like a six point or something, she gets something. Boom, and we're like, but we're on the other side of the camp, like on the other side of public. Like it's it's weird. There's it's how it breaks off. We haven't seen anything. This is 715. We're like, so we break, we go up, again I normally like whatever, we're gonna try. And then about four, excuse me, four forty-five. I see a dose shoot out. Like it just sprints out, like like something's after it. I send a shot, boom, dead center, it's down. I call my buddies, I'm like, I gotta do it. Yeah, like I'm like, yeah, I'm super excited. I'm like, but I didn't want to get down. I could I could see her from from where I was because it was it was pretty close, even when it was gun season. It was pretty close. Like I could probably grab her, and I was like, oh well, I'll I'll wait because I have a buddy who hadn't been out much. I thought he could see where I could see. And then the biggest I find out what's chasing this dough is the biggest stare I've ever seen in my life. Like a gray beard, a guy that's just been like, and it's great, I'll fast forward to say that when I finally got to him, you could see like the scars the like he Had been through stuff, you know. This guy had survived. So he comes and he just looks big chest. Like, what's going on? And it was a little far, so I was like, nah, I'm sure my buddy sees him. He gets closer, so he gets within probably 80 yards. 80 yards. Um, I'm like, I see him. And my heart's already going. Like, I'm just like, I pull up my rifle, I'm like, I really don't want to track, like, I don't want to bring two deer back. Like, I was like, fuck. Like, it's going all this is going, and it's in split second, it's all going to my mind, like, like I don't have enough gear straps. I really don't want to fuck what am I gonna do? Like, this is all going to my mind, and I but I don't want to take the deer from my buddy because he hadn't been out. So I'm like, nah, bro, it's all you. And there's like a pause, and he's like, it's getting closer, and he's not shooting. I'm like, all right, so I shoot it in the heart or mid-chest area heart, boom. Uh and this is the first time it actually happened. He kept running. Normally, it's happened where they'll run into a tree, you know, something something crazy will happen. They stop and it's like, oh wait, didn't happen. He runs towards me and then does like a juke, like he's like like a kid. Like he he jukes. And I thought to myself, I was like, I don't want him to run further. Like, I don't want to bring a dog, he's too big to. I was like, all right. So I shot again. Boom! He he hops and then he hits in a ditch. And that's the part of the video people don't see because it was it was too gruesome to show. He goes into a ditch and he's just kind of like like he he's not fighting, like he's not fighting, like he he's fighting. I guess he is fighting to like to stay alive, you know. Like, so I shoot him again. But in the video, like if you see the clip, it looks like I'm like, I'm just shooting all my bullets, but in reality, it's like shoot once, I'm like, oh he's still running. I'm like, I don't want him to get away because where we were at was so thick, like I would have lost him. Um so I shot again, and both in it it's ironically, like in the comments, people were like, did he even like when I looked?

He looked like because I he was shot up because it's like it was like mid-torso, and then his upper shoulder were both like so it was like it was a hard cleanup because it was just like oh it it's it it was such a crazy thing because I mean from and for me because I already knew, yet again, and the context is I already knew the deer was dead, you know what I mean? So, like when we're doing the post, like I'm like, wow, this video, like I love the video. Like, I was like, Man, this video is so cool. Like, because you you get the shots, you see the deer, and then you also get your emotion of like you're like, oh my god, excited.

I've I had never seen anything like, and again, this is coming from me. I'm like, I had never seen anything like that in my preview, like something like I could actually harvest, you know. I was like, this can't be real. Like, is this uh yeah, you know, it's like uh like like I like to say, it's like Bambi's pops just kind of like you just see these giant antlers, you're like, no way. And you know, the the whole moment I didn't expect it to go viral. I didn't expect like like when I tell you so many people have had added me, and everyone who's added me on on Facebook and social media had been super cool because I was like, all right, let's let's get ready to troll. But you know, they they got a little little spicy, and I like I I told like Joe and a couple other friends, kind of like, hey, appreciate you guys getting to the comments because I didn't know. I got a text, someone was like, hey man, your video has like 300 views or 3,000 views. I was like, what video? Like, my thank you video like there's something I did. I I think I just posted someone's like my one stick video, and then uh I got another text like you gotta check it out. And when I saw the comments, people were just like, Who is this guy? Just saying these crazy things, and like part of me was like, you know what, trolls are trolls, whatever.

So for me, that's what I took personal. Like, leave leave my race out of it, like, and and yeah, it's if you weren't in the in if you didn't know the backstory, because some of my friends were like, just post the whole thing. I was like, or they can just check out the YouTube video, like you know, or you can just check out the whole YouTube video where you can see it all all happen. So the fact that it got uh so big, it's like it's cool, all these people added me and genuinely are still supporting me. Because I think after that, I had posted a like a story about something, or it was it was probably like something you guys sent me, and I I just shared it, and it was like 150 people had looked at that. I was like, 150 people looked at a story. I was like, that's never happened to me. Again, I'm not I'm not searching for for for like uh attention. I want to get people in the outdoors and like share that. So like for that that weekend, it was like, is this how it feels to be like this is this is it, this is like the the uh the the tell-in of this man. I don't know if I want this, like, but then I was like, you know what, I'm not gonna let a few cops because comments happen.

Um, I was loving when people were were like, Oh, you don't need to shoot that many times. One comment had me dying, where the guy goes, Oh yeah, um he goes, Yeah, I'm sorry that we can't just sit in a cornfield and our in our heated box blind. Yeah, yeah, right. I was cracking it because you know how then they like or or like someone was like, Well, tell me you've never really hunted without telling, because yeah, sometimes it's not always gonna be perfect in one shot and boom, the deer's down. Like, I've been on hunts where I've I've shot multiple times and stuff like that.

why that first week I'll I'll hunt and then I put the rifle down because like it becomes so like I do it from like I'm hunting with my boys, um, but for a point it gets too easy because I'm just like boom, all right, cool. Yeah, like it's not it's not and it's still cool to process and getting out there, but it my thrill is like being throwing the challenge, this isn't like yeah, the the the challenge because for me, I mean I've I've been in the army for it's next month will be 23 years. So like guns aren't really, yeah, guns aren't really expecting. Congratulations. Yeah, it's kind of like cool, because like we have to worry about safety and trigger and pee, like it's there's so much that goes into it that for me it's like, yeah, but Bo, that's not something you you do often, you see often. It's not so repetitive where it's like, if you were to give me give me X weapon, I would just be like, I you would you've done it so many times that you could do it without yeah, not super fast, but I can do it enough that I can just fumble around with it and still shoot it, or zero it and um or zero someone else's because I I've even done that, man. Like I've gone out with folks, I'm like, I'll just shoot it for you. Like, it's your harvest, I'll just shoot it for you. Like, it's not I think that I was like uh like a new hunter, or or it was it was something last year where I shot deer for them. Like, oh yeah, you got it, bro. Well, I shot that deer, but like, hey man, take it. Like, it's all good, you know. So yeah, I don't know, man. I like I said, I appreciate those support, and like I genuinely didn't know something like that would go that crazy. Like, I like people are like, oh man, you're gonna get paid off the like, you know. I got some people are so funny about it. I was like, bro, that's not why I'm I'm that's focus on the issue. Like I love it, but also like it's cool that you know, like my Instagram grew from that. It's like, all right, cool. Like, I'm seeing some kind of uh and a few of those guys have uh commented on my uh YouTube and like man, you're really going out here. Like, yeah, I don't I didn't just wake up one day and like because if I wasn't confident in the shot, truth be told, same with Archery, I wouldn't have shot it. If I if I wasn't confident, I wouldn't have shot it. Like I would have never maimed an animal. And and like like I said before, seeing that deer in like it because it tripped and it's just like kicking because it's just still like that guy had had fought so long, like he didn't taste that good. He was just an old salty guy, and he just was like, he had gray. Like I had never seen it like a deer with with gray, like a really yeah, like an aged deer.

No, I didn't. I I probably should have. Probably should have because but because once we got him, we drug him back because I had two deer, drug them back. My buddy had the other one. So instead of having two gear straps, I had one, and then he has these, he has those antlers. So like pulling him down was like it was a pain. And by the time we we were just drenching sweat, and then we I believe it. Yeah, and then we went and like I was like, Well, I probably should do it here. I was like, no. So we took it back to my buddy's house. Then we had to wait for the um weight to drop the guts off because you can't dump it. Like it's like by the time it was like 11, 12 o'clock, and like I remember heart like bringing that guy down. So we I let him what meat that was left because he's he was fighting, and uh it took that was probably long as it took me to process. That felt like the very first time when I was like how up to late, you know, like it just it took so long. I was like, oh, it it's just a funny, funny experience, man. I'm I'm glad I had it. Um like getting that mature deer, like back-to-back seasons, but like one, like one saddle, one's not a saddle. Like it's I don't know. One was December 22nd. I remember that like it was yesterday because I went into Christmas, like everybody's like, why is he so happy? And then I got the other one like like October, it was opening a rifle, so October 14th. So I already had my two bucks. Like my seat, like my season last year was over by mid-October. So you know, what you know, my wife's like, Why aren't you honey? I was like, I what am I gonna do? Like, you know, searching for does it's kind of it's harder, you know. It's like I primarily I'm searching for, you know, and I I'd see a buck, and I'm like, let them walk. Like it just was kind of yeah, no, at that point was searching, searching for uh searching for does. But yeah, no, I I appreciate so different. Appreciate it. Like hopefully we can we can make another success. I'll I'll I'll uh wrap what up and get everyone fired up.

Yeah, they got in some kind of tree, and then I was like, Well, how are they doing it? Like, I didn't, you know, this is this is dating myself. I didn't know what a lock-on was. Yeah, like I I didn't know the difference between lock on or a climber or a saddle or like I didn't know. I just knew these guys were elevated somehow, and somehow felt like so. It's when I think about that, I'm always so I always have to think about that and like get get that, and like, okay, this is how I felt. So if I ever meet someone new or even even some of the trolls on like the it's like mobile, mobile hunting or whatever, people are asking questions, and guys are like, use the search button. It's like, bro, just answer the question, like you know, just answer the question, or this post was already addressed, and then like well, obviously he didn't get it answered, didn't know that. So, man, just just you know, like just answer the question, man. Or that's why you sometimes you have to like unfollow those groups and like come back in because it's it's I've honestly I don't even pay attention to those groups anymore.
